A few years ago, I was asked to participate in an interesting research project aimed at finding an edge in edge computing. I was excited, since my company had recently developed a novel solution to a complex problem. The problem was that we were using a web browser to access and view our internal network. We knew we wanted to use distributed processing in order to reduce our overall processing costs. The key to this was the ability to process requests on the edges of the data center. In other words, we wanted to avoid centralizing processing power as much as possible. One way to achieve this is to use as many local nodes as possible. Although we wanted to use as many local servers as possible, this resulted in two limitations. First of all, we were using a lot of power and memory from the data center, which increased our expenses and strained network resources. Secondly, by moving processing closer to the edge, we actually lost some capabilities that are useful in other areas. Therefore, our final solution to end up with a hybrid cloud was to use a middleware or cloud platform to centralize processing as well as storage.

One of the main advantages of this approach to edge computing is that it allows us to leverage several processing capabilities. One common problem associated with this approach is having multiple machines accessing the same data at the same time. By using a middleware or cloud, this is avoided. Instead, one machine is always ready to process requests if and when necessary, providing us with an edge over traditional computing.

Hybrid clouds will also allow companies to increase efficiency because they reduce the need for hiring additional personnel. Because processing power and memory are not located close to each other, there is no need for new staff to man these machines. Rather, they are added to existing staff, which results in a decrease in training costs. Companies can use this cost savings to further increase efficiency in their business, and they can easily use their own hardware or licensing models to further reduce capital expenses.

Another advantage of using real-time applications is that the increased processing power means that companies can be more productive because they don't have to wait for a network to become available. For example, consider the load that medical research organizations put on networks for storing large amounts of clinical records. If these records had to be stored on local computers, it would take them forever because there would be a great delay between the time when they went online and when they got access to the information.
